Village of Providence is Huntsville's New Urbanist neighborhood — a traditional neighborhood development master-planned through a 2002 DPZ charrette with Steve Mouzon as town architect. Instead of a subdivision hung off an arterial road, the plan converted a five-lane road into a main street with on-street parking and a tree-lined median, then built a walkable town center around it.

Roughly 260,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, four hotels, and a neighborhood elementary school sit within walking distance of the homes. Housing runs the full range — estate homes, cottages, townhouses, brownstones, lofts, and apartments — in Federal, Craftsman, and other traditional styles, with two preserved waterways forming a greenway through the neighborhood. The project has won a Congress for the New Urbanism Charter Award and an NAHB Community of the Year. Cummings Research Park is about three miles north.
